Efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation in decreasing depression symptoms during the peripartum period: A systematic review

چکیده
Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques have been suggested as alternative treatments to decrease depression symptoms during the perinatal period. These include that do not require surgery and are nonpharmacological non-psychotherapeutic. NIBS with evidence of antidepressant effects repetitive transcranial magnetic (rTMS), electric (TES) electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). This systematic review aims summarize on efficacy, safety acceptability in treating peripartum (PPD). We included randomized, non-randomized case reports, used pregnancy postpartum. The reduction depressive neonatal were primary co-primary outcomes, respectively. rTMS shows promising results for treatment PPD, clinically significant decreases between baseline end overall good acceptability. Although profile is adequate postpartum, caution warranted pregnancy. In TES, efficacy derives mostly from single-arm studies, compromising encouraging findings. Further investigation necessary concerning ECT, clinical practice relies experience only described low-quality case-reports. reduced number controlled lack complete datasets serious/high risk bias reports warrant cautious interpretations. Existing limited across techniques; comparative studies lacking, standard parameters yet be established. benefits most robust research, future multicenter randomized trials needed determine position each strategy within pathways care.

متن کاملNon-invasive electrical brain stimulation as a treatment for depression.
Major depressive disorder is a highly prevalent condition for which the treatment of fi rst resort is often a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). There is a paucity of evidence about the long-term effects of SSRI use and unpleasant side effects of SSRIs are common. As a result, interest has increased in new and nonpharmacological treatments for depression. Various forms of electrical...

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to quantify the efficacy of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for the treatment of motor dysfunction in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Prospective studies which evaluated the effects of either TMS (12 studies) or ECT (five studies) on motor function in PD using the motor subscale of the Unifi...

Depression is a common symptom and a major public health problem in the elderly. Despite its prevalence and seriousness, depressive disorder in older people remains under-treated. The optimal treatment of depression in later life is crucial, and requires appreciation of several age-related factors such as comorbidity, polypharmacy, altered drug kinetics, variable treatment response and increase...
